Sputnik Weazel - Manchester, Inglaterra, UK (1960's) Es el actual baterista de: Surfin’ Lungs y Sputnik Weazel.
Empezó a tocar la batería a los 10 años. Un amigo suyo que era baterista le enseñó algunos rudimentos para caja. Las partituras para batería le parecían más sencillas que las de piano y además no le gustaba tocar la flauta en la escuela.

“Mi primera caja fue una lata de galletas con arena dentro. A los 13 años no pude ir a la escuela durante 6 meses debido a una fiebre glandular (en realidad sólo estuve enfermo un mes, el resto del tiempo me hice el enfermo) y lo único que hice fue tocar todo el día escuchando a Keith Moon y Ginger Baker. Ya con 14 años hice mi primer concierto.”

Aprendió a tocar la batería de forma autodidacta, porque cree que el único método de aprendizaje real que conoce es escuchar todo tipo de música y probar a tocar cualquier estilo. "¡Y por supuesto, creo que todos los bateristas deberían también saber jugar al fútbol!"

A los 30 años quiso aprender a escribir música para orquesta y comenzó a estudiar una carrera de 5 años de composición de música moderna (de vanguardia) en la Universidad. ”Creo que yo soy el único baterista punk con un título de Sobresaliente y Matrícula de Honor en música. Lo próximo será recibir el Dr. Weazel, pero no se lo digáis a nadie!”

Los bateristas que más le han influido son: 1-Keith Moon (The Who), 2-Paul Cook (Sex Pistols), 3-Ginger Baker (Cream), 4-Ringo Starr (The Beatles) y 5-Animal (The Muppet Show). ”Me gustaría decir: Gene Krupa y Buddy Rich, pero en realidad mis favoritos son los que he nombrado y en ese orden.”

Durante la década de los 80 realizó bastantes trabajos de grabación como músico de sesión en Londres y Ámsterdam. En esta última década ha grabado con: Sputnik Weazel, Surfin’ Lungs y The Audience. Además ha tocado la batería en directo con: Eddie Izzard, Jimmy The Weazel (The Weazels), Skagal, The X-Ocettes, The Exiles, The Malcolms, and Hot Diggedy Dogs (Los cuales vendieron miles de cintas en la calle, pero nunca llegaron a grabar ningún disco); y ha colaborado en las giras de: Shawaddywaddy, Screaming Lord Sutch, Squeeze, Dr & The Medics, Peter & The Test Tube Babies, The Rezillos.

Sputnik Weazel - Manchester, England, UK (1960's) Is the current drummer of the bands: Surfin’ Lungs y Sputnik Weazel.

He started playing drums when he was 10 years old. “I had a few snare rudiments lessons because my best friend was, also because drum scores looked easier to read than piano scores, and because I didn’t like playing the recorder at school.”

His first snare drum for to practice on at home was a biscuit tin with sand in it. When he was 13 years old, he had six months off school with Glandular fever (it should have only been one month, but he pretended to be ill) and all he did was play the drum all day listening to Keith Moon and Ginger Baker. He did his first gig when he was 14.

Sputnik is self-taught, because he believes that the only real learning method is to listen to everything, and try anything. ”And of course, all drummers should play football as well!”
When he was 30 years old he wanted to learn how to write for orchestra’s, so he studied modern composition (avant garde) at University for 5 years, and he think he is the only punk drummer with a 1st class degree and MA in music. ”Next step is Dr Weazel, but don’t tell anyone!”

His favourite drummers are: 1-Keith Moon (The Who), 2-Paul Cook (Sex Pistols), 3 -Ginger Baker (Cream), 4-Ringo Starr (The Beatles), & 5-Animal (from the Muppet Show). ”I would like to say Gene Kruper and Buddy Rich, but really it have to be those who I have appointed”.

During the 80s, Sputnik did working quite as a session musician in London and Amsterdam. In the last decade he has recorded with: Sputnik Weazel, Surfin’ Lungs y The Audience. Also, he played live with: Eddie Izzard, Jimmy The Weazel (The Weazels), Skagal, The X-Ocettes, The Exiles, The Malcolms, and Hot Diggedy Dogs (Who sold thousands of tapes on the street but never made any records); and he supported: Shawaddywaddy, Screaming Lord Sutch, Squeeze, Dr & The Medics, Peter & The Test Tube Babies, The Rezillos.
